Coronavirus and the rise of the fascist-feudal state

This is a preliminary view on the Coronavirus issue as it applies to the role of government and the rights of citizens.  A more comprehensive justification for the views I’m about to express will follow later.

The March 2020 suppression of human rights and the application of arbitrary state power exercised to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) represents a major step forward in the re-emergence of a centralised feudal state power with an unshakable belief in its ‘divine right to rule’.  Yes, government action was needed, but the way most western governments rushed into putting their people under house arrest proved how close we are to the de-democratisation of the West.  Sweden, South Korea, Singapore and Japan are
counter-factual examples of nations that did not run hell for leather into demagoguery.

It's been obvious for at least the last 15 years that a revived feudal cum fascist state would take shape.  Christians are aware of what is said about the state in 1Sam 8 and Deut 17.  It and wealthy special interest groups will always seek to centralise power and wealth when the Judeo-Christian principles
that underpin John Locke’s (et al) Social Contract are forgotten.

Confession: I did not see this virus route to state suspension of civil liberties coming.  That is largely because there are plenty of quite recent examples of large numbers dying during winter flu seasons in various countries and the state just let it go. At this stage consider the following points because they will feature in the follow up to this preliminary piece:

Governments were spooked against rationality and reason into draconian over-reaction.

The western Church has had nothing to say, because it is lost in the public square wilderness. It remains part of The Problem. (See the definition of The Problem on this site). If it had adopted the NGC Strategy it could now be providing leadership and hope to western societies.

Events in China, media pressure and unsubstantiated risk modelling enticed western governments into over-reacting.

Clearly, social distancing, some public event closures and urgency over medical responses was required.

With the exception of a few most western Governments had comprehensively failed to prepare for a medical emergency on a significant scale. If they had properly fulfilled their social risk management responsibilities crashing economies and going into ‘lockdowns’ would not have been necessary.

There is no real evidence that lockdowns and closing economies actually works, or is really necessary.  Time will tell.

Government’s have now so lowered the interventionist bar that enacting draconian measures to control citizens for anything classed as a ‘crisis’ may become the new norm.

Alarming as government over-reaction has been, the people’s acquiescence has been equally disturbing.

Closing down whole economies could have downstream effects even more serious than the lives lost to the virus.  The cure could end up being far worse than the disease.

End time scenarios involving Revelation 13 measures are now more easily envisaged.
